Transformers: Cybertron, known as Transformers: Galaxy Force (トランスフォーマー ギャラクシーフォース)[1] in Japan, is a 52-episode series co-produced by Hasbro and Takara, set in the Transformers universe. A corresponding toy line was released with the series.
The series was conceived by Hasbro as the final installment of a trilogy formed with the previous two series, Transformers: Armada and Transformers: Energon. However, the Japanese production did not follow through on this intent, scripting the series as an independent story unconnected to the preceding shows.[2] The English dub partially modified the series to establish links back to Armada and Energon, including changes to dialogue and small portions of new animation.

- 1Plot
Plot[edit]
When the destruction of Unicron results in the formation of a massive black hole, the planet Cybertron, home world of the Transformers, is threatened, and its population is evacuated to Earth, taking the forms of local vehicles and machinery to hide from humanity. As this occurs, Optimus Prime's elite team of Autobot warriors are approached by the ancient Transformer Vector Prime, who has emerged from his resting place in the void outside of time to inform them of the legendary Cyber Planet Keys, ancient artifacts of power which can stop the black hole and save the universe. Lost due to an accident during an attempt to create a cross-universal space bridge network, the Cyber Planet Keys now reside on four worlds somewhere in the universe – unfortunately, Vector Prime's map showing their location is stolen by Decepticon leader Megatron, and both forces relocate to Earth as the race to find them begins.
On Earth, the Autobots befriend three human children named Coby, Bud and Lori, played by Sarah Edmondson, who aid them in locating the Omega Lock, the focusing device for the Cyber Planet Key's power. With new 'Cyber Key Powers' awakened in them, the Transformers battle on many fronts, searching for the Lock on Earth while Hot Shot and Red Alert head for Velocitron, the Speed Planet, which is the resting place of the first key. As Hot Shot competes in the planet's grand racing championship to win the key from planet leader Override, the Lock is located on Earth in the bulk of the crashed Transformer spaceship the Atlantis, and Autobot Overhaul heads for the next world, Jungle Planet, where the power of its Cyber Planet Key reformats him into Leobreaker. Megatron ingratiates himself with Jungle Planet ruler Scourge, while at the same time, his scheming lieutenant Starscream teams up with the mysterious Sideways, working towards his own goals.
Ultimately, the Autobots succeed in acquiring the Keys of both Velocitron and Jungle Planet, at which point the existence of Earth's own Cyber Planet Key is revealed. Starscream makes his power play and overthrows Megatron, stealing the Omega Lock and all three keys from the Autobots and using them to grow in size and power. Their forces bolstered by the ancient Autobots from Earth and the arrival of Wing Saber, who combines with Optimus Prime, the Autobots fight their way through a vengeful Megatron and defeat Starscream – but the battle is not without casualties, as Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattershot are gravely wounded and rebuilt into the even more powerful 'Cybertron Defense Team'.
Upon returning to Cybertron, the Autobots use the Omega Lock and Cyber Planet Keys, which awakens the spirit of Primus, the deity who is creator of the Transformers, and Cybertron itself actually transforms into the god's body. After a battle in which Starscream taps the power of Primus and grows to planetary size – only to be defeated by Primus himself – the location of the fourth and final key is determined as Gigantion, the Giant Planet. Gigantion, however, exists in another dimension, having fallen through a rift in space/time, And except for the kids and the minicons, the others can't enter without having their minds separated from their bodies, luckily Red alert has created a vaccine program (based on Technology from Vector prime's sword) to help but it is revealed that Jetfire has Trypanophobia and while the Autobots are able to reach the planet, the Decepticons are led there by the enigmatic Soundwave. Bested by the planet's leader Metroplex, Megatron taps the key's power to become Galvatron, and Sideways and Soundwave reveal themselves to be inhabitants of Planet X, a world destroyed by the Gigantions, upon whom they seek revenge. Galvatron blasts them and Starscream into another dimension and acquires the Lock and Keys for himself, intending to use their power to accelerate the universal degeneration caused by the black hole and remake the cosmos in his own image. Vector Prime sacrifices his life to allow the Autobots to return to their home universe, and the five planet leaders confront Galvatron within the black hole and defeat him. With all the Cyber Planet Keys now in his possession, Primus uses their power to finally seal the black hole, ending its threat.
As the planet's various civilizations attempt to return to life as normal, Galvatron attacks the Autobots for one final time. Without any troops to call his own, Galvatron engages Optimus Prime in a one-on-one duel, and is finally destroyed for good. As Galvatron is dying, he places his fist on Optimus' chest and says his final words; in the Japanese dub he says 'Galaxy Convoy..' which is Optimus' name in the Japanese version of the show. His last words in the American dub, however, are 'I still function. You haven't won. Not while my spark still burns..' As he starts chuckling evily, Optimus says 'You fought well. Goodbye, Galvatron.' As Galvatron disintegrates to space dust, Optimus kneels in front of Vector Prime's sword that Optimus used to slay Galvatron, still injured. As Jetfire and the others run over to Optimus to check on him, Optimus says 'Don't worry. You won't get rid of me that easily.' Galvatron is later seen in the credits of the last episode engaging Vector Prime in battle. With this final victory, Optimus Prime begins a new space bridge initiative, and the Transformers set sail for the four corners of the universe, and new adventures.
Cyber Planet Keys[edit]
Cyber Planet Keys (Planet Force in Galaxy Force) are four mystical items that form the crux of Transformers: Cybertron's plot; in order to stop the black hole that is threatening the universe, the Autobots must gather all four. Also seeking to attain them are the Decepticons, who want to use their power for their own ends.
The Cyber Planet Keys are formed from the spark of Primus, and were used eons ago in the Space Bridge project that was meant to link all populated planets together. They were carried to various planets by four Cybertronian spacecraft, the Atlantis, the Ogygia, the Hyperborea and the Lemuria. All four are controlled by a device called the Omega Lock, and when they are all inserted, they awaken Primus's power.
Unfortunately, the effort failed, and the four Cyber Planet Keys were lost. They would remain that way for eons, until the black hole threatened Cybertron. At that point, Vector Prime emerged, and told the story of the Keys to the Autobots. Eventually, they agreed to attempt Vector Prime's plan, but unfortunately, Megatron also learned of the scheme and began his own effort to gain the Planet Keys. The Cyber Planet Keys were each marked with a symbol and colored gold. The four Cyber Planet Keys were found on Earth, Velocitron, Jungle Planet and Gigantion. On Velocitron, the Key was disguised as a racing trophy, and on Jungle Planet, it was disguised as a dragon statue. The Earth Key was possessed and hidden by Evac in ice, and the Giant Planet Key lay at the very center of planet in the spaceship Lemuria. Finally, the Autobots found the Cyber Planet Keys and the Omega Lock, and awoke Primus, who shut down the black hole, saving Cybertron and the universe. The four planets started a new space bridge project, and, finally, peace arrived.

Adaptations[edit]
A short-lived manga adaptation of the series appeared, with some differences from the anime; it was cancelled before completion.
Reception[edit]
Tim Janson, a reviewer for Mania.com, wrote:[3]
Transformers Cybertron showed that both Takara and Hasbro were committed to co-producing a quality show which had a depth of plot and characterization better than any other Transformers show since Beast Wars. Oh, it's not perfect. The repeated use of the same transforming sequences, especially Optimus Prime's, gets old after about a half dozen episodes, and you realize you still have 46 to go! Also, there are no extras of any kind in the seven-disc set. No commentaries, no deleted scenes, nothing. Hasbro and Takara HAVE to do more to appeal to collectors and adult fans. All in all, the best Transformers show since Beast Wars.
Michael Drucker at IGN, reviewed the Transformers Cybertron: A New Beginning DVD, criticizing it as 'A lackluster update on classic characters with minimal plot'. The video quality was criticized for compression artifacts. The DVD was also criticized for its lack of extra features. Overall, the DVD was given a 'bad' rating of 3 out of 10.[5]

Transformers: Armada, known as Chō Robot Seimeitai Transformers Micron Densetsu (超ロボット生命体トランスフォーマー マイクロン伝説 , 'Super Robot Lifeform Transformers Legends of the Microns') in Japan, is a Transformers cartoon series that ran from 2002–2003, in support of the franchise of the same name. Animation for the series was produced by Actas Inc. (with animation for the Japanese title sequence being produced by Raretrick). The series initiated a total continuity reboot, setting up a brand new Transformers universe separate from any previous storyline. Together with its two sequels, Energon and Cybertron, this continuity family is now known as the Unicron Trilogy.
Legends of the Microns has the opening songs 'TRANSFORMER -Dream Again-' and 'Transformers ~Kōtetsu no Yūki~', with the ending songs 'Never Ending Road' and 'Don't Give Up!!'.

Storyline
Armada's universe is most distinguished by the presence and importance of Mini-Cons, a race of human-sized Transformers that, when 'powerlinxed' to their larger brethren, would unleash a flood of energy. Because of the great potential for their exploitation, the Mini-Cons attempt to abstain from the Autobot/Decepticon war and flee Cybertron, crashing on Earth and the Moon. When some Mini-Cons are accidentally reactivated in 2010 by clumsy teenagers, a beacon alerts both the Autobots and Decepticons on Cybertron, who track them to Earth and continue their battle here.
Mini-Cons can also form powerful weapons, which Megatron wants his greedy mitts on. Eventually, new recruits for the two factions appear, and the Transformers find out Unicron created the Mini-Cons, and is planning to feed on the hatred developed by the Transformers battling, and the Autobots and Decepticons unite to defeat the bigger bad.
Production
Armada was the first Transformers cartoon to be co-developed in the United States and Japan. The show was produced in Japan with animation by Actas Inc., but the English localization by Voicebox Productions was the first to reach air; the 'original' Japanese version was not broadcast in its home country until six months after the American premiere. Following a summer hiatus of the American broadcast in 2003, the 'Hydra Cannon' episodes and the beginning of the Unicron Battles arc debuted on Canadian television, while the final nine episodes of the series first aired in the United Kingdom. Even the Japanese versions of most of these post-hiatus episodes were aired in Japan ahead of the United States, except for the final three; these were burned off as part of a week-long run of daily broadcasts on Cartoon Network just two weeks before the Japanese broadcast of the series concluded.
When Armada was first announced, an unnamed Hasbro source was quoted as claiming Mainframe Entertainment had been 'tapped' to make the show. Sadly, this didn't happen.[1]
Criticisms
The English dub of Armada was plagued with errors—not deliberate changes in premise and dialogue (although those did exist), or other things that would make a typical anime fan claim the dub was 'bad', but genuine, quantifiable technical faults on a scripting and production level that make it clear the show was put together hastily and haphazardly, and was, ultimately, simply not up to modern broadcast standards when it was released. Most explicit are the repeated instances of characters being referred to with the wrong name, particularly the Mini-Cons, but evidence strongly suggesting that many scripts were translated only very roughly, and never given proper re-writes to either adapt them for a Western audience, or to even check if they actually corroborated what was happening on-screen. Characters give long, rambling, semi-coherent monologues, react strangely to one another's dialogue, have very disjointed 'conversations', reiterate obvious plot points to one another, and repeatedly use stock phrases such as 'Hey, wait up!' Moments of intended silence are filled with babble, especially the dreaded 'Uh?' every time a character reacts to anything.
Armada is also well known for its widely fluctuating animation quality. Many of its episodes are riddled with not only animation errors, but woefully frequent, badly-drawn, off-model artwork that puts even some of Generation 1's infamous animation errors to shame. Some of this animation was cleaned up for the show's later broadcast in Japan. The most publicized example is the episode 'Linkup', which featured some significantly altered and corrected animation. Smaller alterations were made in many episodes, such as changing incongruous Mini-Con lineups or fixing blatant coloring mistakes, such as Cyclonus being colored as Demolishor for one scene in 'Swoop.' However, on the whole it is not nearly as different as internet pundits may lead you to believe; most of the badly-drawn, off-model art remains unchanged. Generally speaking, it looks pretty much as bad in Japanese as it does in English.
These problems are generally understood to be due in large part to an extremely rushed production schedule—a fact that should be obvious when one realizes that Armada was an English dub of a Japanese series that was not ready to air until six months after the dub premiered. The cause of this rush job is still under speculation, but there appear to be two primary suspects:
- It was allegedly claimed that initial plans called for Dreamwave to supply character models for the series, but that never materialized, possibly throwing off production schedules.
- Cartoon Network, the channel that aired the show, reportedly would not sign off on the series without a certain number of episodes already finished, forcing a rush job to get the cartoon out to coincide with the toy line's release.
Debuting with a premiere three-part 'movie' at the same time as the 21st century reinventions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe, the immediately-apparent twin flaws in dubbing and animation led Armada to stumble out of the gate into a torrent of hatred from the internet fandom that stands out as one of the rare moments in fan history when everyone seemed to be on the same page. Flak continued to pile up as the first quarter of the series proved to be a sequence of repetitive one-shot adventures in which the same small groups of Autobots and Decepticons hunt for Mini-Cons in one episode after another. The threat of Unicron, as well as the gradually expanding cast, eventually led to more wide-ranging stories, in particular a well-received story arc centering on Starscream, but the consistently poor animation and dubbing, coupled with the fact that by the time these stories came around, the show had been consigned to the 6am 'death slot' on Cartoon Network, meant the show never truly recovered in the eyes of adult fans. In the grand scheme of things, it is only the existence of Armada's even-worse-received sequel, Energon, that keeps it from being widely considered the worst Transformers TV series ever.
All of this, however, did not stop the toyline being a runaway success, spawning a new generation of Transformers fans for whom Armada was the gateway into the franchise. So, it's got that going for it, historically speaking.
